Some Proven Medicine for Asthmatics and Their usesTo cope
with asthma a combination of many things is essential. Milder symptoms
can be dealt with through environmental adjustments and behavioral changes.
In severe cases of asthma, dramatic changes in life style and prescription
medications are needed.Of the basic two types of medications for asthma
patients, one is used as a preventer which inhibits the swelling in
air ways due to environmental triggers. Asthma attack is thus curtailed.
The other type is a reliever medicine taken during an attack to minimize
symptoms quickly.Of paramount importance is to understand and use asthma
medicines as they are designed to be used. The doctor advises to use
the medicines and treatment as outlined. But often patients are prone
to adjust the medicine personally as the symptoms disappear. This is
counter productive and can worsen the situation. Preventer medicines, taken through the inhaler are for long term care use. The most effective medication used is Corticosteroid that reduces the swelling in the airways which causes attacks. This is some times administered in the form of liquid or tablet for a short time. Long acting Beta-agonist is another preventer type of medicine acting as a bronchodilator or a muscle relaxer but not used against inflammation. Along with corticosteroid medication they are used to help moderate to severe asthma. They are also used as reliever medicine through an inhaler to open the airways. Preventer medicines, intended for a long period keep the airways open and bring down swelling and muscles in the lungs. Even when the patient does not feel the symptoms, these medicines should be taken as the underlying problem is constant. Sans the preventer medicines, the lungs will be over worked and become weaker making the person more vulnerable to attacks. A few people believe that constant in take of medicine is less effective. But if not taken constantly asthma worsens and greater medication is required. The doctor, after a time, may change the dosage or give an alternative treatment to simplify your routine or to gain control over your asthma. You need not be unsettled. Have an open discussion with your doctor on the pros and cons of your treatment. Remember
that all medicines have their side effects. Discuss all about this frankly
and be prepared for it in relation to your total medical treatment programs
