Understanding Few Other Diseases That Resemble Asthma

First and foremost the doctor has to eliminate the possibility of other similar diseases before diagnosing asthma. This is extremely important because treatment for asthma is entirely different from those resembling it.If an allergy triggers sensitivity, the solution lies in avoiding the source. For example pet dander does not require any medication. The doctor can take time to decide if asthmatic tendencies can be controlled by behavioral changes.

In Emphysema, asthma’s sister with similar symptoms, lungs are affected and lose their elasticity and lung capillaries deteriorate. Exposure to toxic chemicals and tobacco cause this disease. Air is trapped in the lungs and cannot be expelled due to the degeneration of lung tissue and cell structure. The result is exertion and shortness of breath leading to hyper ventilation. The chest seems to expand.

Bronchitis, asthma’s second sibling, very much like asthma, makes the person unable to breathe properly. Here the inflammation in the bronchi and its larger bronchial tubes produce excessive mucous. Though it can be a virus or infection, too much exposure to smoke and tobacco can cause it. Acute bronchitis lasts from several days to weeks while chronic bronchitis tortures from a few months to a couple of years based on irritation and damage present. There is continuous cough which tries to get rid of the built up mucous.

Asthma’s third sister is Asbestosis, a lung disease that brings in shortness of breathe to the person while he is active and will finally make it difficult to breathe even while at rest. There will be chest pain and dry cough. Small fibers of asbestos breathed in permanently scar lung tissue. People are aware of the danger but modern industries cause Exposure to millions who suffer due to this.

Pneumonia is the fourth sister of asthma with symptoms of shortness of breath, chest pain and cough. It is a very dangerous disorder where there is a lung infection. Germs, viruses, fungi and bacteria cause this disease. They settle in air sacs of lungs, grow and defeat the body’s immune defenses. Pus and mucous would fill the air sacs making it extremely difficult to breathe. The patient feels extremely weak and sick. Yellow green phlegm is coughed up.

Thus it is exemplified that look like symptoms can lead to different diagnosis. Treatment for asthma may take a little time but the doctor should vitally be sure about it.
