Understanding Various Signs and Symptoms of Asthma

Every individual is affected very widely and through a proper understanding of this we can identify the symptoms of the disease. In its severe form, asthma impairs respiration chronically. In others, the attack is mild and less severe and they manage with shortness of breathe.Symptoms of asthma are identical to those of bronchitis, and emphysema. Confirmation of asthma can be done with the help of a number of tests conducted by the healthcare professional including x-rays and blood test and respirometry test that measures the amount of air taken into the lungs and released.



Asthma is mainly characterized by wheezing and shortness of breathe followed by a loud sound from the throat area which indicates a blockage. This is called ‘Strider’. Coughing may persist but it may or may not produce sputum. Decidedly the chest area tightens and the person is unable to relax and take in fresh air sufficiently. There is no typical pattern for diagnosis as signs and symptoms vary from person to person. A thorough testing alone will help diagnosis.

Other significant signs and symptoms of asthma are a rapid heart beat, rattling or gurgling sound from the lungs detected by the stethoscope. This indicates some secretions and mucous swelling. The pulse of the person is weak when he inhales and strong when he exhales. Nerve and rib muscles show signs of strain and the person gasps for breath.

Bad chest pain is linked to severe asthma attack and he may turn blue and lose consciousness for lack of oxygen. Their limbs may become numb and their feet become cold. Immediate medical help has to be got in such a threatening situation. Exposed to the number of triggers and allergens and the increasing stress and strain more and more asthma attacks are likely to occur.

The attack can be surprising and sudden though in between the person has done well for a good amount of time. We should know how the disease works and what potential problems arise in day to day activities. We can then aim ourselves to fight the disease and prevent the worst result. This can be called personal plan of action. With the knowledge at your disposal and proper co-ordination with your doctor you can monitor your health and gain better control of your state.
