Bronchitis is a condition defined as the inflammation of the bronchi which results in persistent cough that produces considerable quantities of sputum. There are two main types of bronchitis which include acute bronchitis and chronic bronchitis. Acute bronchitis that follows or accompanies flu usually lasts for about ten days. Smoke and certain harmful fumes are the major causes of acute bronchitis.Chronic bronchitis is a type of bronchitis that involves excessive mucus secretion in the bronchi. A chronic or recurrent mucus-producing cough that lasts for about three or more months and recurring year after year is one of the other criteria which confirm the presence of chronic bronchitis.

The presence of yellowish-gray or green mucus accompanied by cough is one of the main signs of bronchitis. Some of the common signs and symptoms of bronchitis include soreness and a feeling of constriction or burning in your chest, breathlessness, and wheezing. Some of the other common signs and symptoms of bronchitis include chills and overall malaise and slight fever.
