How to treat gingivitis safely?Gingivitis is a periodontal disease that causes inflammation on the gums of the teeth. The periodontal ligaments and the tooth sockets are also affected by this disease. This disease destroys the tissues that support the teeth causing the infections.
You should take medications for this disease otherwise this might complicate the condition of the teeth and may lead to falling of the teeth. Plaque is also another cause for gingivitis. Plaque contains bacteria, mucus and other food debris. If plaque is not treated and left for longer duration then it might develop in to gingivitis. Plaque and tartar infect the gingival (or the gums). Bacteria and the toxins found in the plaque affect the gums so that they become infected and swollen. Injury to the gums due to improper brushing or flossing of the teeth would also cause gingivitis. If you are not treating gingivitis at the earlier stage it might lead to diabetes, general illness and poor dental hygiene. Some people are prone to gingivitis very often. Such people should brush and floss their teeth regularly after every meal and before bedtime. You may discuss with your dentist on methods for proper brushing and flossing. Dentists usually look for swollen gums while they inspect your teeth and mouth. Gingivitis affected teeth are usually soft and red-purple in color. There are many devices available for treating plaque. Professional cleaning of the teeth is necessary to avoid gingivitis. This professional cleaning should be done at least twice a year for people are affected by gingivitis very often. In addition to frequent cleaning of the tooth and gums, you can use anti bacterial mouth rinses and other aids that keep your mouth and teeth clean. Varying degrees of gingivitis is found in persons depending on their age and the changes in the hormonal activities. Gingivitis usually develops during the puberty or adolescent age. Gingivitis is associated with birth control pills also.
