Simple methods to prevent teeth decay

Plaque that is formed on the surface of the teeth is the cause for the tooth decay. This thin film coating found on the tooth is the place where the bacterium breeds. If you are having plaque on the tooth for quite sometime this might lead to cavity in your tooth.

Toothpastes that contain fluoride can protect the surface of the teeth. Fluoride found in drinking water also protects the surface of the teeth. But this is limited to the protection of the front portion of the teeth. Hence there is a need to protect the back side of the teeth. Sealants are used to protect the teeth from decaying. Protecting the teeth using sealants saves you lot of money and time spent on find a cure after the teeth decays.

Children are the most affected by tooth decay. If you are using sealants you can avoid spending money on fillings, crowns, or caps that are used to fix tooth decay. Small grooves and pits on the teeth are hard to clean using brushes. And especially children might not brush properly. Hence children are the most affected by tooth decay. Food and bacteria build up in the grooves between some teeth and might cause tooth decay. Sealants reduce such risks.

Fluoride tooth paste or mouthwash should not be swallowed. Hence until your child develops the practice of not swallowing the paste you should not allow them to use fluoride pastes. Excessive fluoride may stain the teeth and may become toxic. A bacterium found in the outer layer of the tooth eats away the enamel of the teeth. Following certain healthy habits would help you to control tooth decay. You have to take care of your teeth properly so that you do not transfer the bacteria found in your mouth to your baby.

Avoid long duration contacts with sugar that are found in breast milk and formula milk. This would help the baby to prevent bacteria in the mouth. Give nutritious foods to your child. Include whole grains, vegetables, and fruits in the food. After meal snacks like Mozzarella, other cheeses, yogurt and milk are good for the teeth. These help clear the mouth from harmful sugars and protect the teeth from plaque. Always make it a practice to brush after having such foods.
