Useful remedy for toothacheApplying ice over the area of the toothache is a temporary way to relieve the pain. Sipping ice water continuously for sometime would also reduce the toothache. If you have pain for hours together you can adopt the above methods of using ice on the affected area.
The freezing temperatures due to ice can cause temporary relief and it also reduces the ability of your body to fight the infections. You should not overuse the ice for relief. If you overuse it, it can prolong the duration of toothache. Removing the tooth or doing a root canal is the only relief if a tooth is dead or there is dental abscess. There are no herbal remedies for the dead tooth. It is better to treat the dental infections during a stage when they are treatable. If the tooth decay penetrates the pulp chamber or is very close to it, it will cause tooth ache. There are of over-the-counter pain relievers to cure toothaches that you can choose from. Some of the common over the counter pain relievers are Paracetamol, Aspirin, and Acetaminophen. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs can be used if you feel that there is some swelling. Anti inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen and Mefenamic acid are used for this purpose. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs and aspirin should be used by pregnant women only after consulting their physician. You can
use ice to treat the affected area. If using ice aggravates the pain
you can discontinue it. The above medications are used only to treat
the pain that is caused by toothache and it will not cure it. Brush
your teeth twice daily to prevent tooth decay. Brushing usually after
every meal is recommended. If you are a person who is having frequent
toothache you can also floss along with brushing. A dentist can be consulted
for instructions on brushing and flossing. He might be the right person
to guide you on that.
