Introduction to child sleep disordersVarious child sleep disorders affect children in their young age some disappear on its own without the need for any treatments as the child grows. But some severe disorders if left untreated can cause long lasting effects on the child and can damage the quality of life of the child. A physician should be consulted whenever the symptoms of child sleep disorders are noticed, who will prescribe the necessary medications for early cure.
Sleep apnea is one of the other common child sleep disorders that cause children to frequently stop breathing while sleeping. The three types of sleep apnea include obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, and mixed sleep apnea which result in excessive daytime sleepiness, lack of concentration, and memory loss.Delayed sleep phase syndrome is one of the other child sleep disorders that disturbs the child's sleep during the night and makes the child feel tired throughout the day. Setting a specific bedtime and rise time and avoiding naps during the day could help provide some relief from this type of child sleep disorders. Sleepwalking is one of the other common child sleep disorders that includes a child performing activities such as sitting up in bed, walking or doing some inappropriate activities while still asleep. This disorder is common in children between the ages of four and eight. Sleep terrors is one of the other common child sleep disorders that causes a dreamlike feeling of terror usually experienced just after falling asleep.
