Some of them are niacin, or vitamin B-3, also is effective in lowering cholesterol levels. The prescribed dosage depends on the type of cholesterol-reducing drug used. A doctor or the pharmacist who filled the prescription can advise about the correct dosage. Cholesterol-reducing drugs should be taken accurate doses should not be missed. Taking twice a time should not be taken to make up for a missed dose. Physicians can prescribe a combination of cholesterol-reducing drugs, such as pravastatin and colestipol.
