Treatment of cold sores at home includes, applying cornstarch on the affected areas. Some people mix camphor with some spirits that are available in the pharmacy and apply this combination to the sores and it has been reported effective by many people. Treatment of cold sores using a cotton ball with dimethyl sulfoxide on the cold sores is also an effective way of stopping further growth of the virus. Some people take lysine to reduce the duration of the sores. One of the treatment of cold sores includes, applying an extract of the herb Melissa officinalis on the sores to speed up the healing of the sore.
