Stomach flu treatment often needs administration of fluids, orally, in addition to the intravenous supplementation of fluids. If the patient is vomiting so severely, whatever food given through mouth may again get vomited in such patients. Hence, in such patients, immediately intra-venous route needs to be used for immediate fluid supplementation. However, when the patient is not having serious vomiting, then give fluids as a stomach flu treatment measure.

Avoid giving bulk fluids as a stomach flu treatment measure because already the stomach mucosa might have been affected. Hence, give fluids orally in piecemeal manner. Take more care in choosing the type of fluids. Avoid any fluids that have some irritant effect in stomach. Drinks that have more caffeine and drinks that are in highly carbonated status may be avoided in stomach flu affected patients.

Better to provide tea prepared with minimum tealeaves is considered as weak tea. In this case, less tannin may be there. Clear fluids like apple juice may be given. Though
the patient is vomiting, fluids containing electrolytes like sodium and chlorides may be given and even in the vomiting persons, some appreciable absorption of fluids occurs. Hence, because a person is vomiting, nobody needs to think that they should not be given any fluids orally, as a stomach flu treatment measure.

Stomach flu treatment also consists of fasting for some time because the stomach and intestine might have been affected severely, certain times. Hence, during these periods, one can avoid giving oral administration. However, one should be careful to rectify effects of dehydration by providing intermittently fluid, as a stomach flu treatment measure.

Stomach flu treatment measure may not be much effective, if other concurrent diseases are present in such patients as the case with acute nephritis or severe intestinal ulcerations. Stomach flu treatment may be analyzed seriously, if the vomiting does not get controlled or if he patient has intractable diarrhea.
