How to Deal with Hair Loss after Pregnancy

Many women are willing to endure the travails of pregnancy but not the hair loss after pregnancy.

Though hair loss is normal during post pregnancy stage, you will get back to your original pre-pregnancy hair stage within a short period of time after delivery of child; still many women doesn’t like to see their hair falling after their pregnancy.

Stages of Hair Growth

In any hair growth there are stages or cycles namely Anagen-the first growth phase, Telogen-the second resting stage.

The Anagen stage normally lasts for 4 to 7 years and during this period hair will register a quarter inch growth every month.

In the Telogen stage the hair goes into a resting period and the stage will last for around 3 months.

Then the hair follicle enters anagen stage again for the second time and grow a new hair strand that pushes the old one out and make it to fall.

Out of thousands of hair follicles on your head, few follicles will be always in telogen stage at any pint of given time and you will lose around 50 to 100 hair strands daily.

Pregnancy and Hair Growth

During pregnancy, women will have thick, beautiful and luxurious hair that makes women still more beautiful.

The main reason for such luxurious growth of hair in pregnant women is mainly due to the pregnancy related hormones that assist hair follicles to go into the anagen stage again leading to increased hair growth at the rate of at least 100 hair strands daily.

Any normal pregnancy can last up to a period of 280 days and hence the women tend to grow many numbers of new hair strands.

Post Pregnancy and Hair Loss

Once the baby is delivered, there will be a sudden change in hormonal levels of the body that may lead to all those new hair follicles entering into the telogen stage and almost all the 28,000 and odd hair strands will fall off.

Such hair fall will happen within three months after the delivery of child and hence you will hate to see large numbers of hair falling within a small time and you may even under go a trauma.

As said earlier, many women are in fact willing to under go any trauma related to pregnancy but not willing to lose all those beautiful additional hair growth after the birth of the child.
