Know the Various Types of Hair Loss Medication

Today there are many numbers of hair loss medications available in the market and they are collectively called as “Alpha Reductase Inhibitors”.

Five-alpha reductase is an enzyme present in the body that reacts with testosterone hormone and the reaction will result in production of DHT (dehydrotestosterone), which is believed to be the main cause for hair loss.

In the coming sections we will see more about the hair loss medication and the various available methods.

Propecia

The only FDA approved hair loss medication available in market today is Propecia and it is available in pill form. Propecia pill is known for its property of inhibiting the type II reductase in the body and there by indirectly controls the formation of DHT.

The best part of the treatment could be that you will notice hair growth within a short time and the disturbing fact is that you have to take the pill for the rest of your life and you will start losing your hair if you stop taking the pill.

There is one more new drug by name Avodart in market today and that claims to be more effective than propecia due to the reason that the new drug is capable of inhibiting both the Type I and Type II reductase enzymes.

As propecia is capable of acting on type II reductase only, avodart is gaining popularity now.

Anti-Androgens

Anti-androgrns are the other type of hair loss medication that are capable of inhibiting male sex hormones and such type of drug is prescribed for women for treating baldness.

Doctors avoid prescribing this medication to males due to certain complications or unanticipated results and hence it is better to take second opinion when you use such type of hair loss medication.

Spironolactone is an another commonly used medicine especially by women for their hair loss problem and this medicine is also known as Aldactone. Diane35 is a yet another medicine useful in controlling hair loss in women.

The above-mentioned two drugs namely Aldactone and Diane35 should not be used by males, as these medicines are known to intercept with the production of sex hormones and a reduction in sex hormone may further aggravate the hair loss problem.

In case of hair loss medication proper care should be taken by the doctor while prescribing dosages so as to have a well-balanced hormonal level in the body.

Loniten is an another medicine that stimulates hair growth and it is in no way different from that of Rogaine medicine in contents, except that rogaine comes as a topical application form and the loniten is for oral intake.

Arimidex is very useful as a hair loss medication because the medicine is known to inhibit aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for estrogen production in our bodies.

Mainly men are seen using this type of medicine in the place of propecia for the reason that arimidex is devoid of any feminine related after effects.

You can have a variety of medications in the market today that have made any surgical procedure obsolete for hair loss problems.

The only precaution you may have to take is that you must stick to the gender specific drugs for hair loss and to have a better hair loss medication, you need to allot extra time for knowing all the related facts before your actual starting the medications.
