Understanding Female Hair Loss and its Treatment

Next to the mid-life crisis, the most common trauma that men undergo in their mid-life is the problem of hair loss.

Men try to carry out all the possible steps to cover up their growing baldness and they resort to various methods such as using wigs, fake hair-do, using tropical cream to induce hair growth, etc., only to catch the lost youthful looks.

The common problem of hair loss doesn’t restrict to any gender and is known to affect equally both men and women from all walks of life.

When it comes to hair loss, female hair loss is being looked at as a major problem amongst women and it is estimated that an approximate 25 million women are suffering from the problem of hair loss.

Amidst the heart breaking, or rather head-scratching problem, the good news could be that there are few treatment methods for the female hair loss and let us see them now:

Reasons Abetting Hair Loss

Majority of the hair loss in men is due to genetic factors, where as the female hair loss is mainly due to external factors and imbalances in hormones.

Women will experience hair fall or hair loss when they are pregnant, or when they are stressed out, or when they have developed a thyroid problem, or even when they are fighting anorexia.

During any one of the above-mentioned situations or conditions, the body mechanism or the metabolism of women takes a beating and they tend to lose hair without any fresh natural growth to offset the fallen hair.

A Different Kind of “Baldness” in Women

Men in their ripe age lose majority of their hair and become bald completely and where as in case of women the hair loss is quite different.

Female hair loss starts to show up first in the forehead region, then spread to the scalp crown and is known to affect the entire head region there by leaving a sparsely populated hair over the head.

When women enter their menopause stage, there will a reduction in estrogen level in their body that may lead to hair loss.

In women estrogen hormone is responsible for preventing the testosterone hormones from producing DHT (dihyrdoteststosterone) that causes hair loss, and hence a low level of estrogen cannot effectively control the formation of DHT.

As women advance in their age, there will less estrogen and more DHT in their body triggering hair loss and when the women reach the ripe age of say 80 years, their hair growth will completely stop.

Possible Remedy

As of now there is no effective “cure” available for female hair loss, but there could be few effective treatments for preventing the hair loss in women.

A popular medicine, a topical application that can aid arresting DHT formation is available and when used the formulation will temporarily stop DHT and assist the hair follicles to regain its previous vital form and grow new hair strands.

And very soon the person will have a good amount of hair over the head.As a women, you need not allow your hair loss problem to add up to your existing list of stressors that create stress.

Though you cannot fight your age, you can at least fight the hair loss and can definitely have the wonderful choice of a beautiful, thick and black hair.
