In certain
cases halitosis can be caused due to dehydration which can be caused
by excessive exercises including running or jogging. Dehydration can
also be caused by certain medication. These medicine slow down the secretion
of saliva and cause dry mouth, which then becomes the reason for halitosis.
To avoid such a problem one should drink enough fluids and keep himself
well hydrated. Artificial stimulants like flavored chewing gums and
candies are normally used when people feel their mouth is dry. But you
should keep in mind that the best saliva is ones own saliva.
Diabetes, dental or gum infection, liver diseases or some other diseases can also be reason for halitosis and in these cases the patient should ensure treatment and medicine for both his primary disease and halitosis.
In most
cases, Medicine is not required for halitosis treatment, as simple remedies
like brushing the teeth regularly, having regular checkups with dentists
to ensure healthy gums and to cure dental problems, are enough. In cases
where the reasons for halitosis are strong or severe, the dentist will
prescribe medicine to remove or treat the basis causes. Different kinds
of medicine are available for treating halitosis and some of these are
natural and herbal cures.
