Diabetes, dental or gum infection, liver diseases or some other diseases can also be reason for halitosis and in these cases the patient should ensure treatment and medicine for both his primary disease and halitosis.

In most cases, Medicine is not required for halitosis treatment, as simple remedies like brushing the teeth regularly, having regular checkups with dentists to ensure healthy gums and to cure dental problems, are enough. In cases where the reasons for halitosis are strong or severe, the dentist will prescribe medicine to remove or treat the basis causes.
