Treating Halitosis Safely

Halitosis is commonly known as bad breath. Even though people might not know the name of this ailment most of them suffer from it. Further, most of the people who suffer from halitosis, might not realize the fact till some other person points it out to them. This is because it is difficult for one to find out or believe that he or she has bad breath.

Treating bad breath or halitosis is very simple, as a majority of the cases are caused by lack of basic oral hygiene. There is a tendency for people to not realize the need for good oral hygiene or to avoid or ignore it. This causes them to ignore the need to maintain a clean mouth and so bacteria form in the food particles and cause bad breath.

Smoking, chewing tobacco and other such habits can cause stains and can result in bad breath. These can cause a coating to form on the teeth and tongue areas and can result in bad breath. Treating halitosis in these cases might require people to get rid of these habits in the first place. Sometimes even simple food habits like eating onion and garlic or drinking coffee can result in same. In these cases, people should wash and rinse their mouth properly after consuming these or otherwise they tend to smell immediately. Treating halitosis in these cases just requires that people follow this simple habit.

Another common cause for halitosis is dry mouth. This dryness can be caused due to excessive straining of the body or due to other factors like not taking enough amount of fluids and liquids in warm weather. This dryness of mouth which can also be caused by certain medication, can result in halitosis. The best way for treating halitosis in this case is to ensure a well hydrated body by consuming a good amount of fluids.

A wide variety of options for treating halitosis are available, both in terms of natural and artificial means. Certain kinds of natural foods like asafoetida and others can help in treating halitosis. Also toothpaste that contains natural ingredients like neem can help. Other means of fighting or treating halitosis are available in the form of dental floss, mouth washes, mouth rinsers , tongue scrapers and others. Artificial means of treating halitosis can consist of various medication, but this it not required in most cases. Only in cases of serious nature artificial medication might be required which has to be prescribed by ones physician or dentist.
