Heartburn is a symptom caused when the acids from the stomach flows to the esophagus causing irritation. There are various reasons for heartburn. However, food is the main cause for heartburn. Sometimes improper lifestyle also leads to heartburn. One can avert this heartburn changing their lifestyle and avoiding the foods that cause them.

Treating Heartburn Naturally

Maintaining proper body postures helps in averting heartburn. Sitting or standing in an upright position for three to four hours after food averts acid reflux, which prevents heartburn. At the same time if a person lies down immediately after meals, he/she is more prone to acid reflux and heartburn.

Tight dresses increase the pressure in the stomach, which in turn pushes the esophageal valve upwards resulting in acid reflux and heartburn.

Eating plays an important role in averting heartburn. Frequent and small meals help the stomach to digest the food easily and avoid acid reflux and heartburn. On the contrary, heavy and fatty foods need more acid for digestion and there are more chances of acid flowing into the esophagus causing acid reflux and heartburn.

People who are prone to acidity and heartburn should limit their food preferences and avoid the food that causes heartburn. It may happen so that they have to forgo their favorite food to keep away from heartburn.

Fatty foods are like by all but people prone to acid reflux and heartburn must avoid fatty and fried food. Foods rich in fat take a long time to digest and the stomach needs more acid, which have chances to flow into the esophagus if the person has a weak esophagus valve.

Beverages rich in caffeine create acidity and heartburn. Caffeine has the tendency to decrease the proper contraction of the sphincter, which results in improper closure of the opening to the stomach from the esophagus.

Stomach secretes more acids with the intake of alcohol, which also loosens the LES. Therefore, it is best to avoid alcohol when one is prone to heartburn.

Citrus juices and fruits, chocolates also cause heartburn. Although it is the favorite of young and old it is better to avoid them.

Last but not the least is the spicy foods, which aggravate the acids in the stomach, also cause heartburn, and so avoid them.

It is better to have light food rather than rich and fatty foods as heartburn can develop any day due to improper diet and lifestyle.

Although you might not have heartburn at present, there can be a huge possibility that you will develop the condition if you are not going to start only moderate intake of food that causes heartburn.
