About Snoring DisorderSnoring disorder is more frequent in males and overweight persons, and it usually gets worse with age. It is a serious health problem that affects some 40 million Americans. The severity of snoring can range from mild to a life-threatening condition known as obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).
The MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Test) may be useful to measure the degree of excessive daytime sleepiness and to rule out other types of snoring disorder. People with this snoring disorder often wake up with bad headaches and feel exhausted all day long. The doctor can then tell if a patient has a snoring disorder, sleep apnea or other disorder. In the doctors conclusion, individuals suffering from snoring disorder often turn to sleeping tablets and tranquilizers to help them get some much needed rest. They fail to realize that although the pills may help them to fall asleep, they will simultaneously inhibit the onset of deep stages of sleep in which the tissues of the body are repaired and energy levels restored. According to the American snoring Disorder Association, up to 80 percent of individuals with snoring disorder develop daytime sleepiness and drowsiness. The results of this are shocking since people with snoring disorder have 7 times the likelihood of having a motor vehicle accident.
