Treatments of Dizziness VertigoVertigo can be called as symptom rather than disease, which is having many cases. The most common are benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and Meniere's disease. These two causes can be treated and controlled without surgery.
The other causes of dizziness vertigo are migraine headache, heart arrhythmias, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, stroke and low blood pressure. Sometimes non-prescription drugs and prescription drugs may also cause dizziness. Cold and flu medicines, painkillers, and treatments for diabetes, anxiety and depression can produce lightheadedness and dizziness. The patients who are suffering from blurred vision, speech problems, hearing loss, numbness or tingling, fainting and weakness in the arm or leg should seek the medical advice immediately. Most of the time, the most serious cause will be BPPV or Meniere's, both of which can be treated and controlled with drugs and other non-surgical therapy. The best treatment for BPPV, a simple, non-surgical procedure called canalith repositioning, is easy to perform; both sufferers and their families can be trained to do it. Vestibular suppressants drugs can also be used for this condition but has serious side effects and should be used very cautiously. Canalith repositioning is usually done under expert supervision. Adjusting the patients head and body position in a series of steps will cause dislodging the calcium crystals within the vestibular labyrinth that caused the problem. Other method to control the dizziness or vertigo is the using of vestibular suppressants. These drugs will cause lethargy and impaired balance as its side effect. The older patients are more susceptible to these side effects. While vetibular suppressants often help lessen symptoms, especially in the short term, surgery is the ultimate answer for the unlucky few with severe BPPV-related vertigo that does not respond to the canalith repositioning procedure.
