The Difficult Task of Diagnosing Hepatitis C in Aged PeopleHepatitis
c virus is a dangerous micro organism that damages the liver to a great
extend. One may wonder what will happen in case the person infected
with this virus is a senior citizen. Then in that case no one will suspect that it could be because of hepatitis C infection. The first thing that senior citizen should do as soon as a he/she is diagnosed for hepatitis C infection is that he/she must ask for repeat diagnostic test. No doctor will object to this idea. In case anybody objects that the senior citizen must approach the other doctor without wasting much time. This is important because hepatitis A and B too cause similar discomforts. Once the infection is confirmed in the repeat test also, the person must consult the specialist for the treatment. The specialist will subject the person for liver biopsy test to find out the presence of liver cirrhosis and alpha-fetoprotein test to detect the liver cancer if there is any. The next thing is that protecting the rest of the family from infection. Hepatitis C infection spreads from one person to the other person by way of blood contact only. Still it is better not to use the infected persons razor, toothbrush etc. At times the contaminated tooth brush and the razor may become the source of infection. The senior citizen can cuddle, hug, and kiss the children but must refrain from mouth kiss. The bleeding injury of the mouth can at times spread the infection from them to the children. The person can have normal sexual relation ship with his partner as usual and there is no restriction required on this. The infected senior citizen must wash the sink well after cleaning the teeth. Bleaching powder can be used to clean the sink if required. In case the blood spills on the floor from any cut injury, the floor must be cleaned thoroughly. The material used for washing the floor must be immediately discarded in to the dustbin and removed from the house as early as possible Many people want to know whether the senior citizen who is infected with hepatitis C will die because of that. The possibilities are less. As per the statistical information the persons who have passed their middle age at the time infection will die of other causes than the hepatitis C infection. The reason is the hepatitis C infection causes gradual damage to the liver. The liver cancer and the liver cirrhosis are expected to develop only after twenty years. Before those things to happen, the senior citizen will die due to senility. The medicine
that is used to treat hepatitis C in most cases is interferon. In children
this can be used alone but in case of adults and senior citizens, this
needs to combine with other medication. | Various complications in viral hepatatis | Different types of viral hepatitis | Treatment process of viral hepatitis | What are the various Causative organisms in viral hepatitis | How to treat & prevent viral hepatitis | What is Prognosis in viral hepatitis | Conceived your First Baby with Hepatitis C in your Blood? | Got Diagnosed for Hepatitis C Infection? | The Difficult Task of Diagnosing Hepatitis C in Aged People | How to deal with Emotionally Disturbed Hepatitis C Infected Persons | How to Handle the Undeterred Hepatitis C Infection Spread | Know the Multiple Entry Routes of Hepatitis C Infection | How to Trap and Fix Eluding Hepatitis C Symptoms in a Person | Correlativity between Hepatitis C and HIV Infection | Varied Treatment Options for Your Hepatitis C Infection | How Young Children Play Safe with Hepatitis C Viral Infection | |
