Know the Multiple Entry Routes of Hepatitis C InfectionA decade
back, more precisely before 1990, hepatitis C was getting transmitted
from one person to the other by way of blood transfusion. There were so many false positive cases. As the days pass by, the technique was perfected and more sensitive test evolved. There after the danger of contacting the infection through blood transfusion was averted in total. But blood transfusion is not the only way of contracting the hepatitis C. The drug users are highly prone to hepatitis C infection. The reason is that they will be using the same needle to infuse the drug in to the body, which may be contaminated with hepatitis C. The virus can also spread from mother to the child through maternal transfer. The hepatitis C can spread by any kind of contact with the infected blood is it through injury or any other means such as infected razor. The person who is receiving organ transplant from the infected person will also get this hepatitis C infection. The people who are suffering from chronic kidney failure are at high risk category because they will need the blood related products to keep them alive. Likewise
the person who is hemophilic is also highly prone for hepatitis C infection.
Similarly the people who are working in the laboratory which test the
blood samples need to be very careful. Otherwise they will become the victims of hepatitis C while handling the blood that contains it. It is better to wear gloves and keep the body free from open wound while at the lab. Then the persons who have the habit of tattooing and piercing the body are highly prone for hepatitis C infection. Because the blood contact is possible, if the un- cleaned tattooing equipment is used on them. The person should make sure that the needle or any other equipment used is free from any kind of contamination and is sterilized well before use. It is always better to ask the person to use new needle instead of the old, used one. One should
always keep in mind that even the tiniest drop of blood, can change
the life and health of the person if contaminated with hepatitis C.
hence proper care and attention must be paid in such situations. But in case the person has multiple sex partners and indulges in unsafe sex then the chances of getting infected with hepatitis C is very high. Of course there is a treatment for this infection. But as
all other health problems, prevention is certainly better than cure.
