About Constipation its Symptoms and Treatment InformationConstipation is one of the most common gastrointestinal complaints in the United States, resulting in about 2 million doctor visits annually. However, most people treat themselves without seeking medical help, as is evident from the millions of dollars Americans spend on laxatives each year.
When compared to other diseases constipation is easily curable by adhering suitable dietary patterns. The hard and dry stools of constipation occur when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon's muscle contractions are slow or sluggish, causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly. For people prone to constipation, limiting foods that have little or no fiber, such as ice cream, cheese, meat, and processed foods, is also important. A doctor or dietitian can help plan an appropriate diet. High-fiber foods include beans, whole grains and bran cereals, fresh fruits, and vegetables such as asparagus, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and carrots. As we know prevention is better than cure, this suits for this condition also. In order to avoid the occurrence of the constipation, the daily diet should contain proper quantity of fiber. Other changes that can help treat and prevent constipation include drinking enough water and other liquids such as fruit and vegetable juices and clear soups, engaging in daily exercise, and reserving enough time to have a bowel movement. In addition,
the urge to have a bowel movement should not be ignored. Fruits, vegetables,
and grains contain fructooligosaccharides(FOS), a compound that helps
to feed the good bacteria in your colon. Without an adequate supply
of FOS, good bacteria will dwindle and bad bacteria will flourish. Eat
fruits throughout the day but especially in the evening. This will help
to promote a bowel movement in the morning. Using fruits to relieve
or clear constipation is a powerful natural remedy. Eat fruits every
day and between meals and you will relieve your constipation.
