About Hair Loss, and its Treatment Information

Hair loss is a common problem that is faced by many people around the world. Both men and women are facing this problem. It is felt as a social embarrassment for many of them. People who are in job related to customer care or who interact with other people regularly are more conscious to hair loss and baldness.

The causes of hair loss may be related to heredity, aging, and hormonal imbalance. If heredity is a reason for the baldness, it can be from the mother’s side or the father’s side. There is a wrong notion that baldness is due to heredity from the mother’s side. This is not true. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is one of the major cause of hair loss, hair thinning, and baldness. DHT is a byproduct of testosterone, which is responsible for secondary sexual characteristics in human being. DHT is found in larger levels during puberty.

Even after puberty if this hormone is present in excess levels then it will cause hair loss and baldness. Hence most of the medicines that are available for treating hair loss are focusing on neutralizing this DHT present in the scalp. DHT blocks the essential nutrients from reaching the hair follicles and starving them of these nurtients which may result in hair thinning and subsequent hair loss.Oral drugs such as Propecia and Rogaine are available for treating hair loss. Propecia has some harmful side effects like defective birth and hence it is not recommended for women. At present this medication is recommended for men only.

Rogaine was earlier used for treating high blood pressure and at present used to treat hair loss. There are other medications in the form of shampoos, conditioners, and scalp lotions. Revivogen, Tricomin, Nisim, and Viviscal are the medicines that are available in different forms. It is found that nutrient copper is essential for healthy growth of hair. Hence some of the medications like Folligen are available with copper peptides which supply nutrient copper to the hair follicles. Pulse electrotherapy, accupuncture and magnetic therapy are combined and applied to the scalp using a product called Hair Stimulator. This is also effective for hair treatment.
