Understanding Immune System Diseases

Immune systems diseases are the disorders that occur in the immune system. The immune system diseases are of different kinds. These immune system diseases can be categorized based on the type of disorders that are there in the immune system.

One of the immune system diseases is the AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). This is caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). People who acquire these diseases would see that their immune system is being destroyed by the virus slowly and steadily. Hence the immune system in their body would not be able to fight against any infections. Immune system diseases are also caused by the medications that are taken for cancer.

Immunosuppressant medications can also be one of the causes for the immune system diseases. Consider the chemotherapy treatment for cancer. This treatment not only fights against the cancer cells but also the healthy cells found in the bone marrow and others parts of the immune system. There are immune system diseases called autoimmune diseases in which the immune system fights against the body’s healthy organs and its own tissues as if they were foreign invaders.

Lupus is one of the immune system diseases that cause muscle and joint pain and inflammation. This is one of the autoimmune diseases. This is a chronic disease. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is also one of the immune system diseases in which the immune system treats the knee joints, hand and foot joints as foreign tissue and attacks them. Damage to the skin, joints, and internal organs are done by one of the immune system diseases called the Scleroderma. Ankylosing spondylitis and Juvenile dermatomyositis are the other autoimmune diseases.
